The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has initiated an in-depth Phase 2 review of Insurance Australia Group's (IAG) proposed acquisition of RAC Insurance.
This move follows concerns that the merger could substantially lessen competition in Western Australia's insurance market, particularly in the supply of motor vehicle and home and contents insurance.

The proposed acquisition would combine two of Western Australia's largest insurers, potentially leading to reduced competition and consumer choice. The ACCC is inviting submissions on the deal to assess its potential impact on the market and to ensure that the interests of consumers are protected.

This development highlights the importance of regulatory oversight in maintaining a competitive insurance market, ensuring that mergers and acquisitions do not adversely affect consumer options and pricing. The outcome of the ACCC's review will be closely watched by industry stakeholders and consumers alike, as it will have significant implications for the structure and competitiveness of the insurance market in Western Australia.
